Question on magnetite?

I have several specimens of what is called "magnetite" and im confused. My specimens exactly like magnetite. (The type Chunky massive, no form of crystal.) But they dont attract iron as staples or nails. However, I scratch my specimens with a knife and shaved a couple of ribbons outside the steel knife and have stuck to the rock. so I guess it has a low power magnet. but my question is as follows. Is there a type of magnetite that has very very very very little power magnet?

Natural magnetite was not enough magnetic force to attract iron objects such as your staples and nails. Get a magnet, and if you can "hang" the magnet of your specimens, then they are almost certainly magnetite. magnetite has magnetic susceptibility of most natural minerals, but it is not alone. Ilmenite, pyrrhotite, chromite, hematite, babingtonite, pentlandite and some other varieties of Fe, Ni, and minerals containing cobalt are also variable magnetic. Magnetite is the only one that will give you a positive "lock" test.
